Ford Foundation Gives $300,000 to Pérez Art Museum Miami

The Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) has received a $300,000 gift from the Ford Foundation. The gift will fund the upcoming exhibition “Teresita Fernández: Elemental,” which is scheduled to open in fall 2019.

The institution announced the donation at an event held at the museum on November 13 in celebration of its newly launched Latin American and Latinx Art Fund, which will underwrite exhibitions and other programming dedicated to Latin American and Latinx art and culture. The initiative is the museum’s latest effort to champion underrepresented artists and follows the establishment of a fund dedicated to the acquisition of African American art last year.

“We are so grateful to the Ford Foundation for their generous commitment to this important new initiative,” said PAMM director Franklin Sirmans. “PAMM is uniquely positioned for the twenty-first century—a growing institution in a young city that stands at the crossroads of the Americas and this fund will ensure that artists from Latin American and US Latinx communities will always be a part of our museum’s academic dialogue and community programming.”
