France to Create Fund for Arts Venues Affected by Terrorist Attacks [UPDATED]

La Liberation reports that France’s Minister of Culture, Fleur Pellerin, has promised funding to businesses suffering losses in the aftermath of the deadly attacks in Paris last Friday.

The precise amount of money to be allocated will be announced tomorrow, and it will range in the millions of euros. The funds are intended to compensate venues canceling performances in the aftermath of the attacks, and can also help offset the cost of increased security measures moving forward. Attempting to allay concerns about the attacks’ negative impact on France’s cultural scene, Pellerin said “No attack will prevent us from sharing these moments that bring us together.”

UPDATE, November 19, 2015, 9:44 AM: The full amount of money being earmarked for the recovery funds has now been announced. Le Point reports that $3.75 million will go towards the general fund, with an additional $540,000 specifically set aside to support the Société des auteurs, compositeurs, et éditeurs de musique.
