FRANCESCO MANACORDA NAMED DIRECTOR OF TATE LIVERPOOL

BBC News reports that Francesco Manacorda will become artistic director of Tate Liverpool in April 2012. Manacorda is currently the director of the Artissima art fair in Turin, where he has been since January 2010. He will replace Christoph Grunenberg, who is leaving Liverpool for the Kunsthalle Bremen.

The thirty-seven-year-old Manacorda was previously curator at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, and also a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art there. “Tate Liverpool has an amazing history combining cutting-edge programming with great art historical scholarship,” Manacorda noted to the BBC. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the mission of such a leading international museum.”
