FRIENDS OF THE HIGH LINE’S COFOUNDER TAPPED TO HEAD WORLD MONUMENTS FUND

Joshua David, who cofounded friends of the High Line, has been tapped to serve as president of the World Monuments Fund, according to the New York Times_‘ Robin Pogrebin. David will succeed Bonnie Burnham. He will be the third head in the organization’s five-decade history. In his new role, he will be tasked with working to protect and conserve important architectural and cultural sites around the world, and David says his past involvement with the High Line, which saw over six million visitors last year, prepares him well for his new job.

“I see a lot of connections between the work that they do and the High Line,” David said. “This is an historic site with a great story to tell about the past of New York City and it was threatened with demolition and a movement had to be created to save it.”

The World Monuments Fund has worked to preserve threatened historic sites in over one hundred countries.
