Frieze London Awards Focus Stand Prize to Cape Town’s Blank Projects

Frieze London announced that Blank Projects in Cape Town has been selected as the winner of the 2018 Focus Stand Prize. The annual prize is awarded to an outstanding presentation in the fair’s Focus section, which is dedicated to providing a platform for galleries that are twelve years old or younger.

Blank Projects was recognized for presenting works by Bronwyn Katz, Donna Kukama, and Cinga Samson in a way that “highlighted the strength of each individual artist.” The gallery was chosen by a jury comprising Christina Lehnert, a curator at Portikus Frankfurt, Germany; Margot Norton, a curator at the New Museum in New York; and Victor Wang, an independent curator.

Special commendations also went to Ginerva Gambino in Cologne, Magician Space in Beijing, and Union Pacific in London for their outstanding presentations. Frieze London, featuring 160 galleries, opened its doors to the public today, after holding preview days on Wednesday, October 3 and Thursday, October 4. The Frieze Stand Prize, which is granted to an exceptional display in the Main and Social Work sections of the fair, was awarded to Sprüth Magers.
