When Pat La Frieda Wholesale Meats moves next month to its new headquarters in North Bergen, New Jersey, its ten-thousand-square-foot building in the Meatpacking District will be transformed into an annex of Gavin Brown’s Enterprise. As Crain’s New York Business’s Lisa Fickenscher reports, the gallery will be moving into the space in May. Pat La Frieda will retain a small office and cutting facility in the Manhattan building, says Mark Pastore, the meat purveyor’s chief operating officer.

Last year, the building, at 601 Washington Street, was put on the market for thirty-one-million dollars, but the weak economy made it difficult to sell, so the company decided to lease the space. Gavin Brown’s Enterprise will be more than doubling its current space in the West Village, allowing it to show up to three artists at the same time. Its first exhibition will feature the work of the artist Jonathan Horowitz, and will be titled “Go Vegan!” The show will explore vegetarianism and sustainability in the same rooms that were used to process meat, points out Parinaz Mogadassi, a gallery associate.
