George Lucas Gives $10 Million to Support USC’s African American and Hispanic Film Students

The George Lucas Family Foundation will be donating ten million dollars to the USC School of Cinematic Arts to be used as monetary support for African American and Hispanic students, reports Variety’s Margaret Lenker.

“Hispanic and African American storytellers are underrepresented in the entertainment industry,” Lucas said. Recipients of the funding will be called George Lucas Scholars or Mellody Hobson Scholars (the latter named for his wife). The first round of funding will be given out fall of 2016, and will be split equally between male and female students. Lucas first donated $175 million to USC’s film school in 2006.
