Helga Christoffersen Appointed Executive Director of Art Hub Copenhagen

Art Hub Copenhagen, a new institution focusing on contemporary Danish and international art, has named Helga Christoffersen executive director, effective in July. She joins the organization from the New Museum in New York, where she has worked for five and a half years, most recently as associate curator, and staged exhibitions with artists such as Thomas Bayrle, Adelita Husni Bey, Nicole Eisenman, Carol Rama, and Cheng Ran. She curated the Danish pavilion at the Fifty-Fourth Venice Biennale in 2011 and worked as assistant curator with New Museum artistic director Massimiliano Gioni on the main exhibition, “The Encyclopedic Palace,” at the Fifty-Fifth Venice Biennale in 2013.

“I have followed the development of Art Hub Copenhagen with great interest and look forward to returning to Denmark to lead this new international art institution in Copenhagen,” Christoffersen said of her appointment. “I am excited to contribute to a strong and growing art scene, to invest in artists’ process and work and to create an innovative institution for Danish and international contemporary art, characterized by creative generosity, disciplinary openness and visionary drive that can foster sustained dialogue among a global network of partners.”

Tine Fischer, chairman of Art Hub Copenhagen’s board, said: “Christoffersen has the vital ambition to create a radical, innovative, and international hub for the arts, situated in Copenhagen, working with Danish and international contemporary art.”
