Hirshhorn and Tehran Museum Officials Discuss Potential Loan

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, has begun preliminary discussions with the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art on the possibility of borrowing from the Tehran museum’s collection of international and Iranian art, according to Javier Pes and Gareth Harris in the Art Newspaper.

The talks follow on the heels of news that parts of the Iran-based collection will be heading to the State Museums of Berlin, as Artforum.com previously reported here.

“We have received a number of requests,” said Ehsan Aghaei, deputy director of Tehran’s museum. Giovanna Melandri, the president of Rome’s MAXXI museum has apparently met with TMoCA, and the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt had also begun negotiations, though “the amount of money requested became an insurmountable issue,” said Max Hollein, the kunsthalle’s director.
