Hirshhorn Museum Receives Record-Breaking Gift

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is getting a two-million-dollar donation from trustee Joleen Julis and her husband Mitch. It’s the biggest donation from an individual ever made to the museum, and will found the “Future Fund,” a four-million-dollar effort to redesign the museum’s lobby and sculpture garden. One of the twelve new members recruited by Hirshhorn director Melissa Chiu, Julis joined the board last fall.

The museum brought in $3.7 million more than in the previous year—a 50 percent increase. Julis is already a member of the contemporary art council at the Asia Society, where Chiu formerly worked before heading to the Hirshhorn.
