The former director of the museum at the Rhode Island School of Design has accepted a new position in Florida, notes the Miami Herald. Hope Alswang, who abruptly resigned last August after four years at the RISD Museum, has been named director and chief executive officer of the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.
Alswang told the Providence Journal that the new job was a “fabulous opportunity” but refused to discuss the reasons for her sudden departure from RISD last year. RISD president John Maeda has also declined to discuss Alswang’s departure.
Alswang was highly regarded among RISD Museum supporters for expanding the collection and her success in fund-raising.
