Reuters reports that the House of Representatives on Thursday voted to boost arts and humanities funding by fifteen million dollars next year, in the latest chapter in a long struggle over federal sponsorship of cultural programs. “Freedom itself is constrained if the arts are shackled,” said Iowa Republican Representative Jim Leach. “Arts expression is an unquantifiable, but priceless, facet of our society.”
