IAN WARDROPPER NAMED DIRECTOR OF FRICK COLLECTION

The Frick Collection yesterday appointed Ian Wardropper director of the museum. Wardropper is currently chairman of the department of European sculpture and decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and will replace Anne L. Poulet, who has acted as director since 2003. He will assume his responsibilities October 3.

Kate Taylor and Carol Vogel of the New York Times report that Margot Campbell Bogert, chairwoman of the Frick’s board, said the the trustees were “delighted” to have Wardropper as the next director, citing his curatorial expertise and administrative experience as important qualifications: “The Frick is an institution unto itself, which we want to keep very much the same as it has always been.”
