ICA Miami Closes Due to Hurricane Matthew

Institute of Contemporary Art Miami has announced that it will be temporarily closed from today through Thursday, October 6, due to inclement weather. Meteorologists project that Hurricane Matthew will impact the Southeast US coast starting as early as tomorrow and are monitoring the storm closely.

“I cannot emphasize enough that everyone in our state must prepare now for a direct hit,” Florida Governor Rick Scott said at press conference earlier today. “That means people have less than twenty-four hours to prepare, evacuate, and shelter. Having a plan in place could mean the difference between life and death.”

The hurricane has already slammed the Bahamas and Haiti resulting in at least one hundred deaths. It is expected to reach Florida as a category three storm, but experts say that it might increase to a category four this week.

The Art + Research Center’s Wednesday night seminar will continue as planned, but Thursday night’s programming, a lecture by Evan Calder Williams is being postponed. The museum plans to reopen on Friday, October 7 at 11 AM, as long as the weather conditions have improved.
