Inaugural Riga International Biennial to Launch in June 2018

The inaugural edition of the Riga International Biennial, a contemporary art exhibition in Latvia, will launch in June 2018. Conceived as a dynamic new platform for artistic experimentation, RIBOCA will provide international and regional artists the opportunity to engage with the cultural, historical, and sociopolitical backdrop of Riga. The various locations throughout the city that will host the biennial have yet to be announced.

The founder and director of the Riga Biennial Foundation, Agniya Mirgorodskaya, developed RIBOCA as a new stage for Baltic and international artists. A significant number of the commissioned and participating artists for each biennial will be from—or live and work in—the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Greek curator, writer, and lecturer Katerina Gregos, who has been based in Brussels since 2006, was appointed chief curator of the 2018 edition. The curatorial concept will be announced this spring.
