INDEPENDENT ART FAIR TO EXPAND TO BRUSSELS IN 2016

The New York based art fair, Independent, has announced plans to establish a home in Brussels by next year. Its new location will be the former Dexia Art Center, a 50,000-square-foot building in the city’s historical center. Commissioned by the Vanderborght brothers in the 1930s, the building now features programming by the Belgian Ministry of Culture.

But that’s not all: The fair’s also developing a 4,000-square-foot two-part exhibition space at Sixty-seven Rue de la Régence, which is home to a growing community of art galleries.

Independent Brussels will be operated by the same team as Independent New York and Independent Projects—which were conceived by Elizabeth Dee and Darren Flook, and developed with creative advisor Matthew Higgs and director Laura Mitterrand.
