INDIAN ARTIST TARGET OF HOMOPHOBIC ATTACK

Indian artist Balbir Krishan has been attacked by a masked assailant for his overtly homosexually themed paintings, reports the Indian Express. The attacker also damaged a painting by Krishan at Delhi’s Lalit Kala Akademi gallery. Krishan is from the Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh. The show, titled “Out Here and Now,” was subject to numerous threatening phone calls since it opened in December. The attack was recorded by Akademi’s CCTV. Krishan stated, “I have not portrayed homosexuality before, but I have painted male figures. Since I support homosexuality, this work was personal for me. However, I never expected such a reaction.”
