Experimental filmmaker and artist Jeff Keen has passed away. A veteran of World War II, the Brighton-based Keen was known for his innovations in expanded cinema; he made films including Marvo Movie (1967), Rayday Film (1968–70), White Dust (1970–72), Mad Love (1972–78), as well as more abstract and sometimes violent pieces later in his career, such as B-B-B Bom and Lifestorm (1990s) and Kino Pulveriso (1993). He often created multimedia works, presenting his “diary” films alongside tape compilations of jazz bands and film scores. A major installation by Keen will be presented in the Tanks at Tate Modern this September.
