Jenny Holzer to Receive University of Chicago’s Jesse L. Rosenberger Medal

The University of Chicago has announced that it will award this year’s Jesse L. Rosenberger Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Creative and Performing Arts to the pioneering Conceptual artist Jenny Holzer for her ambitious text-based work. Widely known for her groundbreaking 1970s series “Truisms,” Holzer will be honored during the university’s convocation ceremony on June 15.

Established in 1917 by Jesse L. and Susan Colver Rosenberger, the medal recognizes “achievement through research, in authorship, in invention, for discovery, for unusual public service or for anything deemed to benefit humanity.” Holzer is the fifty-fourth recipient of the award. Past winners include Kerry James Marshall, Steve Coleman, and Toni Morrison.
