Jessica Morgan to Curate Verbier Art Summit’s Fourth Edition

The Verbier Art Summit, an annual two-day event in Verbier, Switzerland, that aims to generate ideas to drive social change, has announced a partnership with Jessica Morgan, the director of the Dia Art Foundation in New York, for its fourth edition, which will take place from January 31 to February 1, 2020.

Commenting on her curatorial vision for the 2020 gathering, Morgan said: “At the 2020 Verbier Art Summit, it seems timely—if not urgent—to confront the human remaking of the environment as acts of claiming authority, and to explore new paths forward in our current societal condition: resource hungry.”

She explained that artists and cultural agents have a history of impacting the landscape, whether through monumental land art projects or some other means, and their ecological effect is often a secondary concern. The speakers that will be invited to participate in the upcoming summit will be asked to address how we can find harmony between art, ecology, and resources.

Last year’s program, curated by Jochen Volz, director of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, was titled “We are Many. Art, the Political and Multiple Truths” and included talks by artists Tania Bruguera, Latifa Echakhch, Ernesto Neto, and Rirkrit Tiravanija, in addition to Grada Kilomba, Naine Terena, Gabi Ngcobo, Federico Campagna, Maria Balshaw, Wolf Singer, and Boaventura de Sousa Santos.
