JOAN MITCHELL FOUNDATION GRANTS ANNOUNCED; MARCOCI PROMOTED

Artnet reports that the Joan Mitchell Foundation has given twenty-five-thousand-dollar awards to twenty-five artists via its 2006 Painters & Sculptors Grants Program. Among the winners are Brian Alfred, Seonna Hong, Brad Kahlhamer, Ati Maier, Ivan Navarro, Clare E. Rojas, and William Villalongo. The website also reports that Museum of Modern Art assistant curator Roxana Marcoci has been promoted to curator in the department of photography. At present, she is at work on “Comic Abstraction: Image-Breaking, Image-Making,” which opens March 4, 2007.
