JOHN EDWARD BUCHANAN (1953–2011)

John Edward Buchanan Jr. has passed away at the age of fifty-eight. Buchanan was the director of museums at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, comprising the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor Museum. He served for six years and oversaw one hundred special exhibitions. Nearly twelve million visitors attended the two museums under his tenure. Before working in San Francisco, Buchanan was the executive director at the Portland Art Museum from 1994 to 2005.
