Joseph Collins has been named president and chief executive officer of Inner-City Arts, the nonprofit organization in Los Angeles that provides free education to disadvantaged youth, reports David Ng of the Los Angeles Times. Collins begins his role this week and succeeds Cynthia Harnisch Breunig, who resigned from the organization after twelve years of service to become chief executive of the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio.
Collins shares that he hopes the organization will become a “place for emerging artists and an incubator for new works in dance, theater, and music.” Collins comes to Inner-City Arts from the former Kanye West Foundation, where he served as chief executive. Ng writes that in 2012, Collins hopes to increase teenage participation and expand Inner-City Arts’ evening and weekend programs for youth.
