Kerry James Marshall Appointed to President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities

Artist Kerry James Marshall has been appointed to President Barack Obama’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, reports Katherine Skiba in the Chicago Tribune. A professor at the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Chicago until 2006, Marshall currently has a show at the National Gallery, which also holds his work in its collection. In 1997, he was the recipient of a MacArthur “genius” grant. Marshall is one of seven new appointees chosen by Obama; others include Stephanie Cutter, host of CNN’s “Crossfire,” and Kalpen Suresh Modi, an actor who goes by the stage name of Kal Penn. The full list of new committee members can be found on the White House's site here.
