Lari Pittman and Three Others Join LA MoCA’s Board

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, has announced the election of four new members to its board: Lari Pittman, Adam Sender, Mary Klaus Martin, and Gabriel Brener. “Board development is a team effort—an important collaboration between current board members and staff,” remarked director Philippe Vergne. These new additions arguably signify an ongoing rebuilding of the museum’s board under Vergne’s tenure, after artists Catherine Opie, Barbara Kruger, and John Baldessari quit in 2013, disgruntled with the direction the museum had taken under former director Jeffrey Deitch, as artforum.com previously reported here. (The three artists have since returned; Mark Bradford, meanwhile, joined last year.)

A professor of fine arts at UCLA, Pittman has shown in the 2003 Venice Biennale, Documenta X, and four Whitney Biennial exhibitions. Mary Klaus Martin, meanwhile, is on the Cultural Heritage Commission for the City of Los Angeles, while Gabriel Brener and Adam Sender are both CEOs of investment firms.
