Laura Owens Wins 2015 Robert De Niro Sr. Prize

Laura Owens has been named the winner of the Robert De Niro Sr. Prize in 2015. She will receive the twenty-five-thousand-dollar prize in recognition of her painting practice.

Meant to support influential mid-career artists, the award was founded by Robert De Niro, actor and cofounder of the Tribeca Film Institute, which administers the project. Stanley Whitney received the inaugural award in 2011, Joyce Pensato won in 2012, and Catherine Murphy and Robert Bordo were recognized in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Owens was featured in a retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2003, the youngest artist ever to do so, and her work will be shown at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art in Spring 2016. She teaches at the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena.
