The Associated Press reports that Leonora Carrington, the British-born painter, writer, and sculptor, passed away in Mexico on Thursday at age ninety-four. Carrington, part of a group of emigres who arrived in Mexico in the 1930s and ’40s, made her name as one of a few leading female figures in the Surrealist movement. “She was a living legend,” the the poet Homero Aridjis told the AP.
