Liverpool Art Prize Short List Announced

Six Liverpool-based artists will be competing for the first Liverpool Art Prize, writes Philip Key in the Liverpool Daily News. The prize—planned to become an annual event—is for fine artists based in the Liverpool area. The six short-listed artists will be exhibited in the new Contemporary Urban Center gallery on Greenland Street in Liverpool. The finalists are artists (and twins) Amrit and Rabindra Singh, photographer Mary Fitzpatrick, painter Gareth Kemp, installation artist Jayne Lawless, and video artist Imogen Stidworthy. The main prize in the contest will be a cash sum of £2,000 ($3,884), awarded by a five-member team of judges including artist Terry Duffy. There will also be a People’s Choice prize of £500 ($971), voted for by visitors to the exhibition.
