Ferran Barenblit

MACBA Hires New Director

The current head of the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo contemporary art museum in Móstoles near Madrid, Ferran Barenblit, has been announced as the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, reports Belen Palanco in the Art Newspaper.

Barenblit has been at his current post since 2008, where he helmed exhibitions of Teresa Margolles and Jeremy Deller. He also previously ran a contemporary art gallery in Barcelona, Centre d’Art Santa Mònica, from 2002 to 2008. Barenblit’s new appointment comes after the controversial resignation last March of both his predecessor at MACBA, Bartomeu Marí, as well as the dismissal of two of MACBA’s curators, Valentín Roma and Paul B. Preciado, who organized the museum’s current exhibition that caused a flurry of censorship and public outcry
