Major Collection Donated to Two Pennsylvania Museums

The late publisher Richard Mellon Scaife has bequeathed his art collection to two Pennsylvania museums, the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. He also left a nature conservancy to the Brandywine, along with $15 million to manage it. Scaife was an heir to the Mellon banking and oil fortune and the owner of Trib Total Media, which includes the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and five other daily newspapers, reports the Associated Press in article published on Delware Online. Scaife passed away July 4 at the age of eighty-two. Said Virginia Logan, executive director of Brandywine: “That he has chosen to leave the conservancy—a property containing acres of mature forest—reflects his belief in the importance of our mission.”
