Manuel Segade Named Director of Madrid’s Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo

Spanish curator Manuel Segade will be the next director at Madrid’s Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M). Segade, born in Santiago de Compostela in 1977, was chief curator at the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea in his hometown from 2007 through 2009; since then he has worked as a freelance curator, essayist, and lecturer. He has curated solo shows of artists like Lara Almarcegui at MUSAC, León, and group shows like the current Motion/Labour/Machinery at TENT Rotterdam. He succeeds Ferran Barenblit, who left to become director at MACBA. Barenblit had been in the post since the center’s inception in 2008.

CA2M plays a key institutional role in Spain, hosting two comprehensive collections and offering exhibitions and pedagogical programs that focus on the tension between center and periphery and on the relations between social movements and subcultures.
