The director of the American Folk Art Museum, Maria Ann Conelli, is leaving her position at the museum to pursue a career in academia. The museum has failed to make payments on $32 million in loans. Linda Dunne, the current deputy director, will replace her.
In an open letter to the public on the museum site, Conelli said, “While the museum has afforded me an extraordinary opportunity to immerse myself in the art and culture of the field, when my alma mater reached out to me it was impossible not to accept the position that will allow me to come home.”
