Matt Saunders Wins 2015 Rappaport Prize

The DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum has honored Matt Saunders with the sixteenth Rappaport Prize. The award of twenty-five thousand dollars goes to an established contemporary artist each year “with strong connections to New England,” as the museum explained.

Saunders, a professor at Harvard, creates large-scale photos and short animated films, alongside drawings on paper and plastic. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Saunders has exhibited art at Tate Liverpool, England, and the 2011 Sharjah Biennial. He received the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award in 2009.

The executive director of DeCordova, John B. Ravenal, praised Saunders’s work as “a fascinating reflection on the intersection of memory, images, and history.”
