The Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney announced they will reopen in March 2012 following a $53 million renovation, which will commence this August. Sydney architect Sam Marshal and the New South Wales government architect will lead the redevelopment and have plans to increase the MCA by almost 50 percent of its current size, adding three new galleries, a rooftop café, and sculpture terrace, which will feature an annually commissioned artwork, as well as refurbishing all existing galleries.
“This expansion will cement the MCA’s role as a locally loved and internationally renowned contemporary art museum, which supports and promotes Australian artists alongside their international peers,” says MCA director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor. “Our commitment to education comes from our belief that creativity and education in the arts are the critical building blocks for a dynamic community.”
