METROPOLITAN MUSEUM RENTS BREUER BUILDING FROM THE WHITNEY

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced today that it plans to take over the Whitney Museum of Art’s Marcel Breuer building. The Whitney is planning on finishing its move into its new Renzo Piano–designed building in the meatpacking district in 2015, officially renting its former Upper East Side space to the Met. The Met hopes to give its overcrowded collection breathing room in the Breuer building while still allowing the Whitney to store some of its collection there. According to the New York Times’s Carol Vogel, this partnership will also extend to collection collaboration, education, and publications in the future.
