Loaded with debt after opening a 122-million-dollar expansion two years ago, the Milwaukee Art Museum has begun quietly selling off pieces of its permanent collection through Sotheby’s, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. In the past two months, the museum has sold antiquities, religious artifacts, and other items in three separate auctions.
