Minneapolis Institute of Art Announces Winner of Inaugural 3M Art and Technology Award

The Minneapolis Institute of Art today announced the winner and runners-up for the museum’s inaugural 3M Art and Technology Award competition, which launched last June to recognize artistry and innovation among individuals working in the field of technology. The “creative tech” studio Team Luxloop is this year’s winner and has been awarded $25,000 for their project Overheard—a site-specific narrative audio inspired by conversations overheard in museums. The piece will be installed at the Institute in the coming months. The other award finalists were Bruce Shapiro, of Sisyphus, and Bobby Maher of Leav App. They were selected by a panel of technology experts and digital designers that included Curtis Wong, CEO of Microsoft; Rick King, CEO of technology at Thomson Reuters; and Douglas Hegley, the director of media and technology at the Institute, among others.
