About one hundred Museum of Modern Art employees brought an open letter to museum director Glenn Lowry. The letter asks the organization’s administration not to “follow a negative trend that would severely undermine the economic security of its staff,” according to Hyperallergic’s Benjamin Sutton. Previously renegotiated in 2010, the workers’ contracts are set to expire on Friday. The union went on strike for 134 days in 2000, when negotiations last reached a standstill.
The union has also published an online petition requesting what union members consider a fair contract, including the abandonment of the museum’s demand that the workers “accept higher healthcare costs, reduced raises, and other cuts to their benefits,” in Sutton’s words. The petition can be found here.
