MOMA YOUNG ARCHITECTS PROGRAM EXPANDS TO ISTANBUL

MoMA’s Young Architects Program announced that it is expanding to Istanbul. The program (YAP) taps emerging architects and firms to create a temporary structure each year at the PS1 courtyard. It will now collaborate with the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art to launch a similar program, which will realize “temporary exterior installations to serve as biennial architectural landscapes for summer programming” there, according to GalleristNY. YAP has previously worked with the Constructo organization in Santiago, Chile, and the MAXXI museum in Rome on such projects.

The Istanbul edition of YAP is set to display its winning submission in June 2013. MoMA chief curator of architecture and design Barry Bergdoll commented, “The expansion of YAP to Rome, Santiago, and now Istanbul, gives well-deserved international recognition to a pool of talented locally based designers within these programs, fostering innovative ideas and helping launch careers.”
