The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s deputy director Kathryn Kanjo has been named their new director and CEO, a post which she will take up next October, according to Carolina A. Miranda in the Los Angeles Times. She will take over duties from longtime director, Hugh Davies, who has led the institution since 1983. Davies, meanwhile, will remain with MCASD to oversee their capital campaign and building expansion until his contract expires in 2018. The museum is currently in the early stages of a renovation and expansion of its location in La Jolla, California. Though they are still raising funds, the project will be designed by Annabelle Selldorf and add 30,000 square feet of gallery space to the museum.

Kanjo originally joined MCASD from the University Art Museum at UC Santa Barbara, where she served as director from 2006 until 2010, and has been MCASD’s deputy director since leaving that institution. Prior to her position in Santa Barbara though, she worked as an assistant curator from 1992-94 and associate curator from 1994-95 at the San Diego museum, where she helped produce exhibitions on artists such as Leonardo Drew, Rita McBride, and Jorge Pardo.
