The Museum of the Moving Image has announced the details of an ambitious expansion plan, Nellie Ilel reports in the Queens Chronicle. The renovation, scheduled to begin over the summer, will nearly double the Astoria museum’s exhibition space. Brooklyn-based firm Leeser Architects was chosen to design the new space, which aims to marry the digital and film collection of the museum with the building’s architecture. “Our challenge was to make the Museum of the Moving Image an event-driven experience where complexity is created from the convergence of architecture and the infinite thinness of the filmic image,” explained Thomas Leeser, the project’s principal architect.
