The British Museum has announced a task force of conservators and curators, funded by an anonymous private donor, to go to the rescue of Iraq’s ravaged museums, Maeve Kennedy reports in The Guardian. The UK’s culture secretary, Tessa Jowell, pledged the government’s support and promised that Britain will not become a marketplace for looted Iraqi antiquities.
