Myrna Ayad Steps Down as Director of Art Dubai

After two years at the helm of Art Dubai, director Myrna Ayad announced that she is stepping down for personal reasons, Gareth Harris and Anna Brady of the Art Newspaper report. “The time has come for me to pursue my own projects,” she said. Ayad’s next move will be to work on opening a consultancy business that will specialize in cultural strategy and production, publishing, and art advising.

Commenting on her departure, Benedict Floyd, the chief executive of the Art Dubai Group, said: “We are grateful to Myrna for her contribution as a director of the fair and in particular she was pivotal in the success of the Art Dubai Modern Symposium which she launched whilst at the fair. We wish her all the best in her professional and personal endeavours.”

Ayad counts establishing the symposium and growing the modern section among her main achievements at the fair. The upcoming edition of Art Dubai, which will run from March 20, 2019 to March 23, 2019, will feature a completely new layout. The modern and contemporary sections will merge, allowing for a more “cohesive reading of the region’s art history,” according to artistic director Pablo del Val; a new section called Bawwaba, dedicated to galleries representing artists from the Middle East, Africa, Central and South Asia, and Latin America, will be launched; and the Residents section, which showcases solo presentations from galleries whose artists participated in residencies in the UAE, will be relocated and expanded.
