The MacDowell Colony has awarded the Edin MacDowell Medal for lifetime achievement in the arts to Nan Goldin, reports Randy Kennedy of the New York Times. Luc Sante, chairman of the selection committee for the award, praised Goldin for creating a medium “unto itself, halfway between still photography and cinema.” Past reciepients include John Updike, Merce Cunningham, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Kiki Smith.
