National Gallery of Art Acquires Leo Villareal’s Multiverse

Artist Leo Villareal now has a permanent piece at the National Gallery of Art, according to the Washington Business Journal.

The National Gallery recently decided to purchase his installation, titled Multiverse—which was already on loan for a year through the end of 2009. The two-hundred-foot-long light installation comprises forty-one thousand computer-programmed LED nodes that are sequenced through his custom computer programs. The purchase price was undisclosed.

The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native received his BA from Yale University and his MA in the design of new media, computational media, and embedded computing from New York University.
