New Contemporary Arts Center Planned for Washington, DC

The Franklin School in Washington, DC will become a contemporary arts, performance, and educational center. Michael Neibauer of the Washington Business Journal reports that EastBanc, Inc., and the Institute of Contemporary Expression have joined to redevelop the historic school into an “international cultural destination and a community institutional icon,” which will include exhibition space and classrooms for adult and student art education programs. Said mayor Vincent Gray: “Franklin School is a historic treasure and we are excited to have a team that will preserve its character while also creating an innovative, cultural experience for the surrounding community.”
