NEW TRUSTEE JOINS NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART’S BOARD

David M. Rubenstein, co-CEO of the Carlyle Group, has been named a trustee of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. His involvement with the National Gallery of Art began in 2005, when he first donated money toward scholarly publications and curatorial fellowships. (Seven years later, he gave ten million dollars for the construction of exhibition space.) He’s also chairman of the boards of both the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Duke University, and he also serves as a regent of the Smithsonian Institution.

Victoria Sant, meanwhile, will become trustee emerita. Sant was a trustee of the gallery’s board for fifteen years, twelve as president. During her tenure, the gallery acquired around thirty-six thousand artworks. Sant and her husband also gave a ten-million-dollar donation toward the new East Building tower galleries and sculpture terrace.
