Nicolas Bourriaud Fired From the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts

Hili Perlson reports at Artnet that Nicolas Bourriaud has been dismissed as director of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris by the French minister of culture, Fleur Pellerin. Pellerin fired Bourriaud last Wednesday morning, after a forty-five-minute exchange about the direction of the school. The minister apparently explained that she had “another educational project in mind” for the Fine Art Academy, but that when Bourriaud pressed for details he received no reply that was satisfactory to him.

Bourriaud posted a message on his Facebook page saying: “Dear friends, the Minister [of Culture] has just fired me ‘for reasons related to a change of direction’ of her politics … Not a single factual argument in the course of a forty-five-minute discussion.” A call for applications to succeed Bourriaud has been launched.
