Nottingham Contemporary Appoints New Director

Gareth Harris reports in the Art Newspaper that Sam Thorne has been appointed as the new director of Nottingham Contemporary. Thorne replaces founding director Alex Farquharson, who became director of Tate Britain last July. Thorne will be departing from Tate St Ives, which he joined only last spring as artistic director.

In addition to serving as a Frieze contributing editor, Thorne is also a visiting tutor at the Royal College of Art in London and cofounded the free art school, Open School East, in 2013 in east London. He leaves Tate St Ives at a time when it’s still in the midst of a major renovation, scheduled for completion in 2017.
