NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale Receives Promised Gift of 100 Works

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale has announced that David Horvitz, chair of the museum’s board of governors, and artist Francie Bishop Good, Horvitz’s wife and fellow board member, have made a promised gift to the museum of one hundred works.

Bonnie Clearwater, director and chief curator, called the donation “transformative” and said that it “provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary art that includes numerous pivotal works of each artist’s career.” The gift includes works by artists such as Cecily Brown, Tracey Emin, Teresita Fernandez, Nan Goldin, Barbara Kruger, Ana Mendieta, Catherine Opie, Cindy Sherman, Amy Sillman, Lorna Simpson, Kiki Smith, Mickalene Thomas, and Kara Walker.

NSU Art Museum will exhibit the majority of the works in the exhibition “Belief + Doubt: Selections from the Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz Collection,” which will be on view from August 26, 2016, through January 22, 2017. Among the works that will be displayed are Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still #19, 1978, two early silhouette collages by Kara Walker, a neon work by Tracey Emin, a digital animation by Jennifer Steinkamp, and a wall relief by Teresita Fernandez.
